Jim Tuman is considered one of the foremost authorities on urban retail development and construction. Mr. Tuman led all of the predevelopment and construction activities for Harlem USA and DC USA including coordinating the obtaining of all land use approvals, overseeing environmental remediation, managing the design and construction team and coordinating tenant design and operational requirements with construction.

 

Mr. Tuman uses his technical expertise and leadership skills to effectively mediate between the multiple disciplines and the various constituents in the retail construction process: government agencies, base building contractors, tenant work contractors, national vendors and the design and construction departments of major retailers. Jim Tuman is the main contact at Urban Strategic Partners for all issues involving construction and project management.

In addition to his work as a principal, Mr. Tuman has also been involved as an advisor on a variety of assignments ranging from the planning and procuring of all governmental approvals for large-scale projects such as Hospital for Special Surgery’s $132 million expansion over the FDR Drive in Manhattan to providing project management services for residential, commercial and institutional facilities including the award winning 175,000 square foot headquarters for the Lighthouse in Manhattan, the Garden State Cancer Center in Belleville, New Jersey, and the $75 million addition to the St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Port Jefferson,
New York.

Mr. Tuman joined Grid Properties in 1989. Prior to joining Grid Properties in 1989 Jim Tuman worked for Turner Construction Company. He has a Civil Engineering degree from Princeton University and a Masters of Business Administration from Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management. Mr. Tuman is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.
